Outings
There are a wide variety
of pursuits for the visitor to Nibon in the North Mainland. Nibon itself
is a lovely spot for walks out along the coastline to the South. Dramatic
cliff scenery, seals and birdlife to be seen. Many artists have taken
a great liking to this spot and found it very inspiring. Further afield
are trips to Hillswick and Eshaness. Eshaness cliffs and
lighthouse are a priority for most visitors to Shetland and Eshaness is
15 mins away from Nibon by car. The
dramatic 'Drongs' are clearly visible also on route. The
Tangwick Haa museum, in Eshaness, is a quaint little museum with
a wealth of local history.
Other walks further to the North that can be undertaken are to Uyea
or Fethaland in North Roe. Also a walk around Hillswick Ness
is very pleasant. To the South of Nibon the Isle of Muckle Roe is a beauty
spot and many visitors take in the walk to the 'Hams' of Muckle Roe
and the cliff walks around the area. Cycling is enjoyable in the North
end. Single track roads to the North are peaceful and winding, some routes
are hilly for the cyclist who requires a challenge.
Eating Out
While staying at
Nibon you may wish to dine out rather then 'eat in'. We would recommend
you try Busta House Hotel. Take the first junction to the left after
leaving Brae towards Hillswick and follow directions. Busta House is an
old lairds house and is full of history and even has tell of ghosts. Dining
is either in the bar or restaurant.
